While there may be many reasons why wounds heal slowly or poorly, the 2 most common reasons encountered in my daily practice are:
- Superimposed bacterial infection which may require the appropriate use of topical or oral antibiotics to clear it.
- Poor wound management. Proper wound management requires the use of right cleansing solution and procedure, correct wound dressing such as silver-impregnated non-stick dressings, hydrocolloid dressings.
A proper medical consultation is highly recommended to avoid potential complications such as progressive infection and scarring.
