Cosmetic Dentistry Profile Image

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry refers to any dental work that improves the appearance of teeth, gums and/or bite. It primarily focuses on improvement dental aesthetics in color, position, shape, size, alignment and overall smile appearance.

Types of cosmetic dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry may involve:

  1. Addition of a dental material to teeth or gums: bonding, porcelain veneers, crowns, gum grafts
  2. Removal of tooth structure or gums: enameloplasty, gingivectomy
  3. Teeth whitening
  4. Straightening of teeth

Popular cosmetic dentistry treatments in Singapore:

  • Teeth whitening. Dentist-supervised treatments remain the recommended procedures for lightening discolored teeth.
  • Tooth reshaping removes parts of the enamel to improve the appearance of the tooth. It may be used to correct a small chip, or to alter the length, shape or position of teeth
  • Veneers are custom-made porcelain laminates that are bonded directly to the teeth. They are an option for closing gaps, enhance the shape, or change the color of teeth that do not respond well to whitening procedures.
  • Dental implants are prosthetic replacements for missing teeth.
  • Gum life raises and sculpts the gum line. The procedure involves reshaping the tissue and/or underlying bones to create the appearance of longer or more symmetrical teeth.

Hello, I normally recommend whitening AFTER the braces have been removed. If you are planning to get fixed braces, the braces will cover parts of your teeth and therefore the whitening product will not be able to work on those areas. Similarly, if you are undergoing Invisalign treatment, atta...

Hi there, jaw surgery is a safe oral surgical procedure when done by a well-trained, experienced oral surgeon. Nonetheless, with all surgeries, there are risks that your oral surgeon will share with you before the procedure. Facial numbness is a side effect of jaw surgery and typically t...

The most common cause for misaligned teeth in the finishing stages of braces is due to bracket/tube position . In this case, there are 2 ways to address this minor issue: 1) Reposition the molar tubes ^ Poorly positioned tubes causing the first molars to rotate. Re...

Class 3 skeletal malocclusion occurs when: 1) The upper jaw is undersized in relation to the lower 2) The lower jaw is too large in relation to the upper 3) Both the upper jaw is undersized and the lower jaw is too large in relation to each other A crossbite may also appear in class 3 malocclu...

As part of pre-surgical planning, xrays and 3D scans of your skull and face will be made. This can then be used to approximate the changes to your face as a result of the surgery. Some patients may benefit from correcting a single jaw, some both jaws. The decision on which jaw should be treat...

The reason for your underbite is probably due to an imbalance between your jaws, and/or the position and angulation of your teeth. From your photos, your lower jaw does seem more forward than your upper, and it is also off to the right hand side. An imbalance of the jaws ...

Crown lengthening is usually required to increase the amount of tooth structure available for a crown to grip on to firmly. This is usually done when the tooth has a short clinical crown (usually 2nd molars) to begin with, has been extensively damaged by decay or fractured due to ...

Hi Celine, It is very difficult to predict the extent of facial changes due to extraction-type braces treatment. Even for patients who have jaw surgery done, the true extent of their facial changes as a result of the treatment cannot be predicted with 100% accuracy. The change...

Generally speaking, having a good, well aligned and balanced bite with your OWN NATURAL SOUND TEETH, is going to be better than trying to achieve the same with dental implants, or any other man-made prosthesis. However, there are instances whereby dental implants are indicated as...

Dear Sharon I have had a good look at the photograph. Yes you are correct. These are indeed 'mamelons' which are completely normal and are of no clinical significance at all. Mamelons are actually 3 round protuberances which are a result of how a tooth germ cells forms enamel....
