Cosmetic Dentistry Profile Image

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry refers to any dental work that improves the appearance of teeth, gums and/or bite. It primarily focuses on improvement dental aesthetics in color, position, shape, size, alignment and overall smile appearance.

Types of cosmetic dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry may involve:

  1. Addition of a dental material to teeth or gums: bonding, porcelain veneers, crowns, gum grafts
  2. Removal of tooth structure or gums: enameloplasty, gingivectomy
  3. Teeth whitening
  4. Straightening of teeth

Popular cosmetic dentistry treatments in Singapore:

  • Teeth whitening. Dentist-supervised treatments remain the recommended procedures for lightening discolored teeth.
  • Tooth reshaping removes parts of the enamel to improve the appearance of the tooth. It may be used to correct a small chip, or to alter the length, shape or position of teeth
  • Veneers are custom-made porcelain laminates that are bonded directly to the teeth. They are an option for closing gaps, enhance the shape, or change the color of teeth that do not respond well to whitening procedures.
  • Dental implants are prosthetic replacements for missing teeth.
  • Gum life raises and sculpts the gum line. The procedure involves reshaping the tissue and/or underlying bones to create the appearance of longer or more symmetrical teeth.

Effects of Cosmetic Dentistry

Some patients may expect increase in tooth sensitivity after undergoing a cosmetic dentistry procedure. Although many can go back home the same day of the surgery, food restrictions are common to ensure that the surgical procedures do not get affected. Getting dental veneers is also an irreversible procedure as the natural shape of teeth has to be altered in order to fit the veneers in properly. Hence, researching and being committed is necessary before going for the treatment.

The Tell-All Guide to Invisalign for Teenagers (2020)

Clear aligners are becoming an increasingly popular choice for teenagers as they are a discreet way of straightening teeth, and because of aesthetics and comfort.

What’s important is that they allow the orthodontic treatment to be more comfortable for them. Clear aligners can also be removed for ease of cleaning so teens can be less self-conscious of their appearance!

While there are multiple clear aligner brands available out there, in this article, however, I will be going in depth about Invisalign for teenagers. Hopefully, you will gain more insight into how Invisalign works, the prices and what to expect for a teenage orthodontic treatment.
