Glaucoma, commonly known as the ”silent thief of sight” is a disease that causes damage to our optic nerve that leads to an irreversible loss of sight. Glaucoma affects 3% of people over the age of 40 and 7% over 70 years of age. Early-onset Glaucoma however, which usually hereditary, can also affect people under the age of 40 - abnormalities that affect your trabecular meshwork can be present from birth.
