Last year, I started searching for a plastic surgeon to fix my slanted nose bridge which I sustained from an accident when I was young. Ever since that incident, I couldn’t breathe properly and I had to live with blocked nose on one side. I was contemplating if I should get my rhinoplasty done by an ENT or a Plastic Surgeon.
I knew an ENT surgeon will be able to fix my breathing problem, but I wasn’t sure if they could take care of the aesthetics portion. Whereas, plastic surgeons would probably handle the aesthetics portion better than the other. After consulting surgeons from both specialties, I decided to go with Dr Por Yong Chen from Dream Plastic Surgery. My consultation with Dr Por went like this. I met Dr Por and told him I wanted to fix my slanted nose bridge.
And since I’m considering surgery, I wanted to explore if I can remove a hump on my bridge at the same time. Dr Por started off with my slanted bridge. He analyzed my nose and it wasn’t long before he figured out what was wrong. He pushed my nose, held it in a certain position. When he did that, I could already feel the difference in my breathing. He knew exactly where to fix and went on explaining that my slanted bridge caused one side of the nasal airway to have a narrower opening. Hence I always felt like I have perpetual blocked nose.
Dr Por started drawing on his board, explaining what was wrong with the structure, why I couldn't breathe properly and how he was going to fix it. I’m a visual person and the drawings really helped me understand my condition and his plans for my surgery. He looked confident about fixing it and that gave me the assurance that I would be fine under his care. We went on to the aesthetic portion. Apart from straightening my bridge, I also wanted to even out the bump on nose bridge.
I didn't want a dramatic change, just to straighten and smooth out the lines on my bridge so it looks nice from the side. Dr Por took some photos of me and did a live simulation of the results after surgery. He also recommended me to raise my nose tip a little so it looks better overall. We did a comparison between my original photo and the simulated results and it fits what I’m looking for. It looks natural, and the simulation gave me an idea of my results after surgery.
But most importantly, Dr Por could proof that he understood what I wanted and our expectations are aligned. The consultation with Dr Por that made me confident that he could fix both my breathing problems and also achieve the look I’m after. SURGERY DAY The team was very professional.
Dr Por and the team came into my waiting room, did one last round of briefing, cleared my last-minute questions before they led me into the theater. Such major surgery was a first for me and it was really nerve wrecking when I had to walk into the theater, but the nurses were quite good at distracting me with jokes which helped alot. I really appreciated that part and I thought the team really had good human touch. The next thing, I woke up, surgery was over. No vomiting, not much giddiness, no pain, I felt fine. Initially I thought recovery would be scary and painful, but it was nothing like it. I did have swelling over the next few days but that was manageable and there was little pain during that period.
The nurses also followed up closely on my recovery progress over the next few weeks. My results settled after one month and I’m very happy with it. My nose bridge is now straight, I could finally enjoy normal breathing after so many years, results were very natural, I can hardly see any scars, everything healed very well. I’d just like to thank Dr Por and the team once again. It was quite an experience for me, a pleasant one of course and I’m glad I made the right choice. I couldn’t be happier when I looked at my transformation.
