How can men get rid of superficial acne scarring? Can any doctor advice please?
I've been told by a dentist that I have 2 options: to extract my tooth, or to undergo root canal treatment. I was told that the root canal treatment also has a chance of failing. I am uncertain which is the better option for me.
How confidential are the results of an STD test?
Can one be fully protected against HPV with a vaccine?
I contracted genital warts, despite my boyfriend not having them. Can it be cured?
I have Herpes Simplex Virus 1 which manifests as cold sores. Can I also get it through sexual intercourse?
Thank you for the awesome blog trying to debug myths about our careers!
I realise there are very few people whom I can turn to regarding working overseas with a NUS MBBS degree.
Do you have any idea how to go about doing it? I understand we have a 5-6 year bond. But following that, do we have to take a bridging course to work in other countries such as NZ, or Taiwan etc etc?
Thank you! Hope to hear from you soon!
Hi! My name is Megan and I’m currently in the midst of doing uni applications. I am really conflicted right now because I am having a hard time choosing between dentistry and medicine. I did go on an attachment with a private dental clinic and I liked what I saw. I have 2 questions that I hope you can answer to help me in my decision
1. what are the future prospects of dentists? Do you think there will be too many dentists soon? (please be honest with me) NUS said that the ratio is 1 dentist: ~2000 people. Is that cutting it a bit too close?
2. Would making dentistry my first choice and then medicine my second mean that if I get rejected by dentistry, I would likely be rejected by medicine too since people usually rank the courses the other way round?
I would be really grateful if you could get back to me asap because I need to finish uni apps quickly as I’m going overseas soon
Hello doctorxdentist 🙂 I am Sanjay. I have viewed your blog regarding NUS dentistry multiple times and it has helped me so far. You see, I really really want to get into NUS dentistry. I am actually not a Singapore citizen, but a permanent resident. I did not do the Singapore A levels but instead studied at an Indian School, here in Singapore. My Grade 12 (equivalent to A levels) grades are good. But, I think you can judge my grades too! Here are my grades, remember the maximum score for each subject is 100!
English – 90 ; Math – 92 ; Chem – 88 ; Bio – 86 ; Phy -78 (physics score is bad)
(In the NUS admissions website, it says that the admission committee wants either Bio/Phy..since my bio is better would that be taken into consideration?)
So do you think I stand a chance for dentistry? Would I get shortlisted? I have over two months volunteer experience at the Science Centre Sinagapore. I also enjoy writing, joined an International Short story competition and won an “outstanding achievement” awards. I am also a member of Mensa Singapore (High IQ society)! Do reply to my message as soon as possible! I am extremely passionate about becoming a dentist one day!! Thank you for reading this, and expecting your reply soon!
I am an ‘A’ Levels JC graduate student. I am writing this specifically to Dr Meow, with regards to some questions pertaining the application for Dental school in NUS.
Last Friday, we received our results. I was really devastated that I did not get straight As. My grades are:
H1 GP – A, H2 Physics – B, H2 Chemistry – B, H2 Math – A, H2 Econs – A. I understand that given that Dentistry is a very competitive course with its limited spaces, the chances of me getting past the first round would be nearly impossible. Furthermore, both my Sciences (which are the main subject pre-requisites for Dentistry) got a B, which means that my chances are even slimmer.
However, I’ve always wanted to become a dentist as I believe that dentists have the potential to change people’s lives, just as how my dentist changed mine for the better.
I would like to ask you for advice, as I am completely clueless about my next step. Other than Dentistry, I have no other courses that I am exceptionally passionate about. Should I still try out for Dentistry? Will there even be a chance for me to get past through the first round?
Thank you so much for your help.
