What is difference between Profhilo and Botox or fillers?

Profhilo, Fillers and Botox are all very popular “lunchtime" treatments to refresh the face non-surgically. Profhilo and Natural Fillers (the most commonly used type of filler) both consist of hyaluronic acid (HA), a complex sugar normally found within our dermis that helps skin retain moisture and youthful plushness, making both biocompatible and safe. But the properties and function of HA differ between these two products. Profhilo Profhilo is an injectable pure HA anti-ageing moisturiser that's proven to boost skin’s own collagen regeneration by up to 12 times.

Which lasers are best for red and brown acne pigmentation on the face? (photo)

As inflammation from an acne breakout resolves, it may leave behind residual redness (post-inflammatory erythema, PIE), brown pigmentation (post-inflammatory pigmentation, PIH), or true scars (pitted or raised). Often times, a patient may have any combination of PIE, PIH and true scars. Developing new scars often have redness within them as well. Although PIE and PIH tend to resolve over time (as opposed to permanent true scars), these blemishes are understandably frustrating and treatment is commonly requested.

How long will the redness after fractional CO2 laser take to go away? (photo)

From past experience, redness generally resolves within 1-2 weeks after a typical fractional CO2 scar resurfacing treatment for most patients, consistent with what Dr Terence Tan has observed. Some degree of redness is expected as part of the skin healing response induced by laser skin resurfacing due to the rich vascularisation and immaturity of the thin, newly formed epidermis. Having said that, it can understandably be concerning for many. The redness may be more prolonged where more aggressive treatment is administered (e. g. in deeper scars).

Can a HydraFacial and a laser treatment be combined in the same session?

Yes. From past experience, HydraFacial can often be combined with many types of lasers in the same session, in most but the most sensitive patients. HydraFacial MD is perhaps one of the best known hydradermabrasion facial, worldwide. Its Vortex technology uses a combination of oxygen and aqueous solutions at supersonic speeds to remove debris and surface dead cells that are then suctioned away. This provides gentle but effective professional exfoliation and pore purification.

How effective is oral intake of collagen and hyaluronic acid in preventing wrinkles?

As the famous saying goes, “You are what you eat. ” Nutrition plays an important role in keeping our bodies healthy and skin glowing. However, the use of oral collagen and hyaluronan (HA) supplementation still remains controversial due to the lack of regulation on the quality and quantity of ingredients in over-the-counter beauty supplements. While specific collagen and HA supplements have been shown in some studies to improve skin hydration and reduce fine lines, not all over-the-counter beauty supplements are created equal.

What is the difference between Q-switch laser and other laser treatments for acne scars?

Fractional ablative lasers are traditionally considered the "gold standard treatment" for atrophic acne scars. Of these, fractional CO2 lasers have deeper reach than fractional erbium yag lasers. Intense beams of laser ablate or vaporise tiny "pixels" of surface skin and scar tissue like an ultra-fine airbrush, triggering skin renewal and collagen remodelling to resurface scars and rejuvenate skin. In general, faster and more improvements in sunken scars are expected with these ablative resurfacing lasers, as compared to non-ablative lasers like Q-switched lasers.

What is the main difference between lasers and microdermabrasion in the approach to treating hyperpigmentation?

Faced with a wide array of options ranging from microdermabrasion, topicals and chemical peels to all the different types of lasers, many patients feel overwhelmed. The most commonly used group of lasers for hyperpigmentation is the "q-switched" and "pico" lasers. For these non-ablative or "lunchtime" lasers, the laser light energy is specifically absorbed by the melanin in the pigment spots and is transformed into mechanical (photoacoustic) waves, which disperse the pigment into much smaller particles without breaking the surface skin.

What factors do doctors consider when determining the best treatment for atrophic scars?

Skin scarring, especially atrophic acne scars (or what many of my patients refer to as pitted or depressed scars), is such a common skin woe that can seriously affect many people regardless of severity. Acne scar treatment - with its wide array, is unsurprisingly overwhelming for most patients who are looking to start their treatment.

What is the best treatment to address awkward eyelid folds? (photo)

I assume you are referring to what some patients call their "triple eyelid", which can be present in one or both eyes. For the majority of them, this skin fold is a result of hollowing or sunken upper eyelids that they were either born with or became prominent as part of the facial aging process. The multiply folded or sunken upper lid tends to make the eye(s) look "tired". Treatment for sunken upper eyelids is challenging, even for an experienced doctor.

What do doctors think about claims of commercial eye masks being able to treat dark eye circles? (photo)

Dark circles trouble so many people, even in their youth. What most do not realise is that dark circles can be a result of many different underlying causes or even multiple causes in an individual. Hence, the treatment requirements (to target the underlying issues) or response to certain skincare would understandably vary. For example, the picture seems to show mostly pigmentary dark circles with some rough, dry skin on the upper and lower eyelids. For some, this could be genetic, and many others it could be related to allergies that they have had for a while or in recurrent bouts (e. g.

What are the common aesthetic objectives of people getting chin fillers?

The chin is an important focal point of the jawline that forms part of the "Golden Triangle of Youth" of the face. It is no wonder non-surgical chin augmentation with natural filler microinjection is such a commonly performed lunchtime treatment. From past experience, many patients who undergo chin fillers often complain of a prominent double chin, a prematurely saggy jawline or a dimply chin, instead of a "small or blunted chin". A few have even complained that their noses are too big or their necks are too stout when the actual issue lies in a relatively weak chin and jawline.
