Invisalign was recommended to me by Dr Toh because of a severe open bite. My treatment took less than a year. Dr Toh was very good at explaining the entire process and would always answer in great detail any question however silly. I experienced very minimum discomfort and I enjoyed the fact that ...

Common Issues With Permanent Tooth Eruption In Children: A Dentist Explains
Common Issues With Permanent Tooth Eruption In Children: A Dentist Explains

Children undergo practically constant growth. This process can be most evident in their teeth, where parents are able to observe visible transformation at a rapid pace. As their bodies are always adapting to ever-changing demands, complications can sometimes occur.

For example, as children shed their baby teeth before their adult teeth come in, there is the potential for dental abnormalities to crop up.

A DoctorxDentist reader wanted to know what measures she needed to take for her 6-year-old, who had baby teeth that didn't drop, causing her emerging two adult front teeth to grow out crooked. Dentist Dr Jaclyn Toh was kind enough to lay out a detailed response for the mother. Here's what she had to say.

This Singaporean Dentist Shares Her Best Tips On How To Get Rid Of Stubborn Bad Breath!
This Singaporean Dentist Shares Her Best Tips On How To Get Rid Of Stubborn Bad Breath!

At some point in time, most of us have had breath. Usually, this situation can be easily rectified with a simple swish of mouthwash or by brushing and flossing.

However, for some people, the awful smell persists for weeks, if not months!

Stubborn bad breath can make you feel awkward in social situations, cause emotional distress, and lower your self-esteem. It can be embarrassing and tough on those around you.

A 26-year-old female DoctorxDentist reader wrote in to share her story. She revealed that she has been having bad breathe since she was 9. Despite implementing an extensive dental hygiene routine involving flossing and tongue scraping, she feels that the scent has only gotten worse.

Dr Jaclyn Toh, an experienced dentist, responded to the distressed reader with an in-depth answer. Here's what she had to share.

Mouthwash Might Be Bad For You! This Singaporean Dentist Reveals Why
Mouthwash Might Be Bad For You! This Singaporean Dentist Reveals Why

We've all seen the compelling commercials – with a vigorous swish of mouthwash, your entire mouth-cleaning routine is completed. Whiter teeth, healthier gums, and no trace of bad breath.

However, that's far from the truth. In fact, over-reliance on mouthwash is one of the biggest mistakes people make when it comes to oral hygiene.

So, is mouthwash absolutely essential for dental health? Dr Jaclyn Toh, an experienced dentist gives you the low down. Here’s what she had to share.

Dentists choose treatment plans based on many different factors . Some of these factors have nothing to do with clinical data. As a patient, your dentist should go through the different treatment options with you so that you understand the treatment itself, and the long term maintenance required ...

There is no underbite visible in the photo. The biggest benefit of early treatment for an underbite (skeletal class 3) is to prevent the need for orthognathic jaw surgery later in life. Since patients with skeletal underbites tend to have a flatter midface area, growth modification therapy ca...

Perhaps. It seems like you have an underlying skeletal discrepancy which is mild. The upper jaw seems relatively undersized compared to the lower jaw. Premolar extractions, when the appropriate tooth is selected, can be useful for camouflaging skeletal discrepancies where...

It depends by what you mean by "move". Generally teeth start moving within a few days of braces being placed on to the teeth. This delay is because there are physiologic changes that take time to occur within the jawbone to allow tooth movement. Moving a tooth about 1mm over ...

Your upper front teeth appear to be straight but the edges are not even. This may give rise to the perception that the teeth are not straight EVEN if the root axes (how the roots appear on xray, and correctly placed braces will tend to make the roots of your teeth parallel) have been properly alig...

The 2nd picture of your braces is not as clear as your pre-treatment photo so I will have to make some assumptions. Invisalign or braces can definitely realign your teeth to fix the crowding in your upper and lower jaws.
