Overview

Thanks to ample experience in several fields of dentistry, Dr. Tan is a versatile dentist whose skills benefit patients throughout Singapore. Dr. Tan has a clinical interest in cosmetic dentistry and smile makeovers, and he enjoys correcting malocclusions with the use of modern methods such as Invisalign. In fact, during 2014, Dr. Tan received the distinguished status of Platinum provider with Invisalign. His status rose to Platinum Elite Invisalign Provider in 2015, after he successfully treated over 81 patients with Invisalign in one year.

In 2016, he was again awarded for being a Platinum provider with Invisalign. A strong belief in the old saying that “prevention is better than a cure” inspired Dr. Tan to spearhead the Minimal Intervention Program at the National Dental Center, with the help of other pioneering dentists. He ensures that his patients are always fully informed before he begins any type of treatment. In 2006, Dr. Tan participated in the University of North Carolina’s student exchange program in the United States. The following year, Dr. Tan received his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the National University of Singapore. He served at the National Dental Center for a time, as well as teaching Nitec in Dental Assisting for groups of dental assistants.

His career repertoire includes serving as committee member for the International Dental Exhibition Meet in 2006 and 2008, plus a stint as a committee member at the FDI Annual World Dental Congress in 2009. Dr. Tan continues to boost his effectiveness as a holistic dentist by expanding his knowledge and training through courses overseas and in Singapore. Currently, Dr. Tan holds a membership in the Singapore Dental Association. In 2007, he functioned as a core member in the ethics department, and during the two following years he served an important role in the area of oral health awareness. His memberships in the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology, the College of General Dental Practitioners in Singapore, and the Aesthetic Dentistry Society of Singapore allow him to extend his positive influence for the oral health of Singapore residents.

Outside of dentistry, Dr Tan volunteers for the deaf community and enjoys an intense workout at the gym

Are teeth sealants recommended? Why do dentists in Singapore not mention them?

Hi! Generally teeth sealants aka pit and fissure sealants are not indicative for all patients. Why is that so? There are several factors that would predispose a patient to possibly needing them: 1. Patients who are at a high risk of developing decay. These are patients ...

Am I suitable for teeth whitening if I have sensitive teeth?

Hi there! Most people are generally eligible to some forms of whitening. However, it is advisable for you to inform your practitioner about your teeth sensitivity prior whitening. Not that it will cause disastrous consequences, but it would make your teeth whitening procedure a l...

Does a shaky tooth in a child need to be extracted? Will he require braces?

Hi there! Hope this finds you well. A loose tooth generally wouldn't cause too much issues or distress to patients. And it should exfoliate spontaneously. However if your notice your child having difficulty in eating or maybe eating at a relatively slower pace than before, i...

Are there any better options to veneers for evening out teeth colour?

Hi Jennifer, It does seems like veneers or crowns could be the better option for what you described above. Veneers (either porcelain or composite) would be able to give you a more uniform shade and appearance for your teeth. Like what Dr Soo mentioned as well, if the tooth is hea...

What are the available treatment options for receding gums?

Hi YY, Hope this finds you well. The black triangles that you mention can be quite annoying isn't it. If it doesn't bother you all that much, sometimes leaving it alone and just improving your oral hygiene at that area should suffice as it tends to trap food occasionally. ...

What can I expect during gum contouring in Singapore?

Hi there! Hope this finds you well. In my usual practice, during the initial consult, I will take some measurements on the teeth that I will be correcting, specifically the width of the tooth. From that, I will derive the ideal length for that specific tooth if I were to follo...

Are there any alternatives to filing down teeth during Invisalign treatment?

Hi Sophh, there are several ways to create spaces during your Invisalign treatment: 1) IPR (filing) 2) Buccal expansion (moving your back teeth outwards) 3) Proclination (moving your front teeth out) 4) Distalization (moving your back teeth backwards, usually into the sp...

What is the recommended method to remove a fragment left behind after a wisdom tooth extraction?

Hi Lucus, Sorry to hear that there is a fragment left behind at the extraction site. I do agree with Dr Gerald that it sometimes happens to even the best of us. While trying to extract a tooth, sometimes it makes more sense to leave a small little fragment behind, than to scour a...
