Very calming. Before procedure gave me a lot of options. Procedure uncomfortable but no pain. Good medication. Was concerned tooth had been chipped during extraction but informed me it has not.

Meet The Expert: Dr Samintharaj Kumar - Dentist

youtube video preview

Meet Dr Samintharaj Kumar, a passionate dentist and the founder of Nuffield Dental Clinics. He was also the one who brought the All on 4 (a revolutionary dental technique) invented by Professor Paulo Malo to Singapore.

He decided to specialise in the field of dentistry because he feels that dentistry lends itself to both the science and the art of crafting smiles, which suits him perfectly in terms of personality.

He was intrigued by the fact that without surgery, he could help people look better and improve their outlook on life. To him, beauty is all about retaining the essence of who you are, without changing too much.

Watch to find out what he likes about dentistry, his nifty tricks on how to make a patient relax, and his motto in life.

A Dentist Tells You When Your Wisdom Tooth Should Be Extracted And The Costs Involved
A Dentist Tells You When Your Wisdom Tooth Should Be Extracted And The Costs Involved

Most of us (adults) have 32 permanent teeth; 16 on both your upper and lower jaw. Wisdom teeth, also known as third molars, come in at the very back of our mouth, with one at the end of each row of teeth. They usually don’t develop fully until the ages of 18 to 24.

Unfortunately, more often than not, our jaws don't have enough space for them to erupt properly. Thus, they can often cause dental problems.

While wisdom teeth removal is one of the more common dental procedure in Singapore, people often wonder if it's necessary to extract them if they aren't causing any pain.

Dr Samintharaj Kumar, an experienced dentist, shared his thoughts with a reader on DoctorxDentist's Ask A Doctor platform. Here's what he had to say.

The process of eating and digestion begins with the teeth. With a missing tooth, a number of things happen. Typically biting efficiency is reduced and there is now space for adjacent teeth to move in and eventually change the way you bite. There are many options for a replacement to...

The answer to the question truly depends on a number of factors. The most important thing is about what your dad wants. For example, if he does not want any form of surgery at all, then a denture or perhaps a dental bridge may be instead a better option for him. Whilst a denture ...

The history and photo suggests a wisdom tooth which lacks sufficient space to erupt. This is a frequent cause of gum swelling at the back. When there is insufficient space for the wisdom tooth to erupt, there is typically gum that covers part of it. This condition is called pe...

I understand that both you and your family are concerned about your father's blood pressure. It sounds like there is a possibility of 'white coat' syndrome where the blood pressure is increased only due to the 'nervousness' a patient might have when he sees a dentist or doctor. ...
