I just want to be prepared...

It’s awards season at Human! We are announcing the nation’s favorite doctors, as determined by compiling and analyzing thousands of ratings and reviews of patients from across Singapore and South East Asia.

Each year, only 10% of doctors in Singapore are named a Human10 Trusted Reviews Award recipient.

“The goal of the Human10 Trusted Reviews Award is to acknowledge physicians who are consistently highly rated” said Tristan Hahner, CEO of Human. “As healthcare gets more complicated and more choices for care become available, it’s important to provide information that helps consumers easily identify providers who make patient experience a top priority. This is our way of recognizing physicians for their commitment to outstanding care, based on opinions of those who know them best - their patients.“

When making important decisions about where they receive care from, patients who see the Human10 Trusted Reviews Award badge can feel confident that the doctor has been vetted through the experiences of their fellow patients.

Doctors who've been honored as a Human10 Trusted Reviews Award recipient can look forward to being recognised with a badge on their website, which increases their visibility and trust with prospective patients.

Identifying the 10%

Millions of patients rely on Human each year to find and connect with doctors and dentists in Singapore. Visitors leave ratings, reviews, and answer survey questions about their doctors on various components of care, such as:

  • Wait time
  • Explanation of condition and treatment
  • Doctor's skills
  • Bedside manner
  • Follow-up care
  • Treatment costs
  • Overall experience, including whether or not they would recommend the practitioner to a friend or family member

To get an even more complete picture of each practice, we’ve also compiled reviews from third-party sources to objectively determine the winners.

Third-party review sources include:

  • Google
  • Facebook
  • Yelp

All award recipients must receive at least 3 reviews in a calendar year and have a medical license in good standing with no sanctions or complaints filed to the Singapore Medical or Dental Council.

Findings

10,112 doctors and dentists in Singapore were evaluated based on the above criteria. 10% were identified as award winners. They represent 33 specialties across doctors and dentists in Singapore.

human.com.sgpared the data collected on award recipients to all providers in our comprehensive database.

Here are the key findings:

  • Winners had an average of 22 reviews, while the average doctor in Singapore had less than 5 reviews.
  • Award recipients maintained an average rating of 4.5 or higher out of a 5-star rating system.
  • Doctors with a minimum rating of 4.5 stars get seven times as many appointments as doctors with a rating less than 4.5 stars.
  • Doctors with at least 5 reviews get 74% of online appointments.
  • Reviews most often mentioned a doctor's clinical skill or bedside manner.

Analysis

According to a patient survey by PatientPop, 72% of patients say their first step in finding a new doctor is checking online reviews.

By understanding important considerations for patients they serve, providers can improve their overall care experience.

In positive reviews, patients most often mentioned a doctor’s clinical skill. From a layperson's perspective, this meant that they saw an improvement in their symptoms or had a good outcome after treatment.

In negative reviews, patients mentioned communication, wait time, and treatment costs four times more frequently that they did in positive reviews.

It’s worth noting that any patient assessment of a doctor’s skill is based on subjective opinion, and that the doctor may in fact have provided expert treatment that did not meet the patient’s expectation.

Having said that, knowing how patients evaluate their care can help doctors be more proactive in establishing patient education opportunities, as well as clear goals of the expected outcome.

Ultimately, positive interactions between patients and doctors lead to an increased willingness to seek expert medical advice for health issues, which translates to better health.
