The most common symptom is a cloudy vision.

Another would be your vision getting affected, like your short-sightedness increasing: as if the near objects are clear but the far ones keep on getting blurrier and blurrier over time. This means you have to keep on going to your optician, who keeps on increasing the degree. That's one symptom of cataracts.

Other symptoms include double vision, where you see things or images are doubled or more dispersed. The top telltale sign would be blur vision.

What causes cataracts?

It’s a natural occurrence, a natural degeneration of lens fibres. The other causes of cataract could be things like oral steroids, for example, if a person is taking oral steroids for a long time they do get cataracts. Trauma as well, people who get injuries, be it sports or construction or accidents also get lens-related opacity related to trauma. People with ocular inflammation uveitis or allergic conjunctivitis also get cataracts. So, most of these conditions can cause cataracts.
