Are you able to provide hospital shadowing opportunities in Singapore?

Good on you that you decided to find out a little bit more about what it’s like as a doctor, before applying to the course.

Doctor job shadowing in Singapore at public hospitals is formalized – ie you have to apply through the hospital’s specific shadowing programme.

With private hospitals, you have to contact the doctor directly. Parkway is known to be quite open to job shadowing.

Pros of shadowing at a public hospital: It gives you a better feel of what med students go through (you’ll probably meet a couple of them), and experience what the job of a doctor in the public sector is like. 3 – 5 days is enough.

Pros of shadowing a private doctor: It’s much more chill. Probably easier to shadow a specialty doctor that you are interested in, as you likely won’t get to pick a specific department if you apply via a public hospital shadowing programme.
