Discomfort after removal of fibroid – is this normal?

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi, unfortunately I cannot advise via an online platform whether any discomfort post operation is considered “normal and ok”, as there are a host of factors to take into account.

This would include a proper examination, more details of the op and nature of the discomfort – all of which are questions your operating doctor is best placed to answer.

I can, however, advise what I’d do in your shoes. If your discomfort is worrying and persistent, I’d drop a message to the clinic, explaining the situation and requesting for a call back or some advise.

Most doctors are usually happy to reassure patients post-op, as they are familiar with what’s within the realms of “normal” for their patients following the operation; or otherwise, they will get you down for a follow-up appointment a bit sooner, as necessary.

Cheers

Where should I go to confirm a diagnosis of PCOS in Singapore?

I agree that seeing a gynaecologist directly might make the most sense as regardless of history taking by the GP, the ultimate confirmatory diagnosis is still ultrasound of your ovaries. They would be better placed to discuss with you on treatment modalities.

Are there any lifestyle or diet choices that can help to shrink fibroids?

There is curently no conclusive scientific evidence of any links between diet, and shrinking fibroids. There is also no scientific evidence that avoiding certain foods prevents the recurrence of fibroids. Having said that, there are ongoing studies looking into diet and lifestyle as contributory factors for fibroids. Of note, the exact cause of fibroids is unknown till date. However, there is: A genetic element – you are more likely to develop them if someone else in your family had it. An association with higher levels of oestrogen (a female hormone).
