As Dr Samuel pointed out, different scars require different treatment modalities. Hypertrophic scars benefit from steroid injections and also certain fractional lasers.

Fractional ablative lasers like the CO2 or Erbium-Yag achieve very good results on clinical studies but are accompanied by much downtime.

The latest fractional non-ablative lasers such as the Erbium-Glass and Thulium (found on platforms like the De Oro Dual/Fraxel Dual/Sellas Evo/LaseMD) provide good cosmetic outcomes for such scars too with minimal downtime.
