What are ways to correct uneven skin tone? (photo)

Hi,

From the photo, you may have early melasma. It is best that your consult your preferred Aesthetic doctor or a Dermatologist to first confirm the diagnosis.

Treatment of melasma includes avoiding aggravating factors, sunscreens, and topical lightening creams.

Additional advanced treatment includes oral lightening agents and light therapy which should be administered by a qualified doctor for suitable patients only.

Before we dive into the different type of treatments, it is important to know the underlying cause of uneven pigmentation and skin texture. It occurs for a number of reasons such as:

  • lifestyle choices,
  • hormonal change,
  • sunspots,
  • etc.

Once you determine the cause, we can then suggest a couple of treatment options. Broadly speaking, there are 2 main types/ways to tackle uneven skin tone.

Firstly, there is photo-rejuvenation. That would mean that the treatment will be using lasers. These machines include q-switch, pico laser and many more. They are designed to rejuvenate the skin.

Another option would be using skincare products. This includes products that contain ingredients such as hydroquinone, tretinoin and hyaluronic acid to deal with symptoms of hyperpigmentation. Vitamin C serums are a recognized form of an option to help with dark points and hyperpigmentation.

Good questions! I agree with Dr Chua’s reply on the pros and cons of Fractional CO2 lasers versus Infini RF. In addition, I would like to address your question on the ideal length of time between subcision and Infini RF treatments. The ideal interval between treatments is 4-6 weeks. This is to allow for adequate skin recovery. Hope that this answers your questions!

Is PRP injection available for acne scarring in Singapore?

PRP at the present moment is not available in Singapore. It does help with acne scarring though, and you might have to go to neighbouring countries to do the treatment (including Malaysia). Having said that, you can consider Rejuran/skin boosters/microneedling that can help in a similar fashion. Your 2nd question on which is better — it depends on the severity and type of scars. But usually Fractional laser is the backbone of laser therapy. So consult your doctor early to discuss the available options.
