What are the risk and side effects of using acidic products after PICO laser treatments?

Doctor's Answers 1

After having a pico-laser treatment session, I would recommend waiting for an interval of 10-14 days before you begin using acidic products on the treated areas. This is to allow and also ensure that there is adequate time for the skin healing to occur.

Although there is minimal to no downtime after a pico-laser treatment session, the treated skin may show some symptoms such as:

  • redness,
  • swelling,
  • temporary increased sensitivity,
  • dry skin and/or
  • skin sensitivity

Acidic products may aggravate these symptoms and also irritate the skin further if the products are to be used immediately after treatment. This should be avoided during the initial period of post-laser healing.

Is it possible to have laser treatment if I have eczema prone skin?

Thank you for your question. I agree that laser is still an option for you despite your eczema prone skin. The first question is, how stable is your eczema? If it has been well controlled, then you can consider having laser treatments. The next question is, whats your goal for laser treatments? As this will determine your choice of lasers. Hope this helps.

How does pico laser treatment differ for people with a combination of acne scars as compared to treating a single type? (photo)

As with all forms of acne scar treatment, one treatment modality may be used to treat a variety of acne scars. The key differences are: 1. Choice of parameters. More severe scars needing more intense treatment. 2. Response. Deeper scars respond less compared to shallower scars. Deep ice-pick scars remain most challenging to treat and often require punch excision to convert them to shallower linear scars before additional resurfacing procedures are carried out to even out the appearance. Pico-lasers tend to work reasonably well with shallower acne scars e. g. superficial boxcar scars.
