Should men only use skincare products labelled as "For Men"?

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi,

There is really no need to if you are interested purely in the function of the product e.g skin cleansing or moisturizing. The active ingredients in a Men’s range vs a Women’s range of products are often the same, hence the effectiveness and arguably skin tolerance to the product will likely not differ at all.

The key difference lies mainly in the packaging and fragrance that may appeal to different genders.

As an extension to this topic of a product’s targeted group labeling, children's formulations tend to contain lower concentrations of active ingredients. Sensitive skin formulations tend to avoid known irritants and allergens such as fragrances and strong preservatives, and may be more suitable for use in the specific groups.

Always good to have more choices than fewer!

What are the considerations for using intradermal Botox (micro botox) to control erythema rosacea?

If a patient has tried standard topical and oral treatments (which are more cost-effective) and is not getting satisfactory relief for the flushing, then micro-Botox may be tried as there are several reports demonstrating its effectiveness. However, it is important that patients understand that micro-Botox for flushing is an off-label usage (i. e. not an approved indication), is temporary (lasting 3-6 months) and is expensive, depending on the amount of toxin that is needed.

How effective is microneedle RF in reducing sebum secretion?

Microneedling RF can be quite effective in reducing sebum secretion. Heat generated from the RF needles can have a similar effect as heat from various lasers which can cause shrinkage of sebaceous glands and consequently decrease secretion. The Agnes microneedling RF stands out because it can not only decrease sebum excretion but also deliver high enough energy for selective and complete removal of unwanted sebaceous glands. This can provide a more long-lasting solution for patients with skin diseases as a result of sebaceous gland malfunction.
