What treatment options are available for treating one crooked tooth that leads to debilitating ulcers?

Doctor's Answers 1

Depending on the situation, there are 2 options for removing an interference from a single crooked tooth:

  1. Trim the tooth: This is done so that the tooth no longer pokes out of alignment. This may be suitable in cases where the rest of the teeth are in decent alignment and in an older patient with a smaller pulp (nerve). The trimmed tooth may become more sensitive after the trimming so usually a filling is placed to cover it. Occasionally, a tooth may have a crown or veneer placed instead of a filling. This is an irreversible procedure.

  2. Aligning the teeth: This will ensure that all the teeth are straight and no one tooth is protruding excessively to rub on the lips, cheeks, or tongue. Teeth can be straightened with traditional braces or Invisalign. Retainers must be worn after treatment so that the alignment of the teeth can be maintained.

Your dentist will be able to advise you on which option will be the most suitable.

How to differentiate between mouth cancer and mouth ulcers?

Malignant (cancerous) ulcers tend to have certain characteristics: 1) Large or enlarging 2) Presenting for more than 2 weeks. The lining of the mouth turns over within 2 weeks, so any benign ulcers, cuts, or scrapes should heal within this time. 3) Underlying hard lump. This is known as induration and indicates that there is an increased number of cells in the underlying tissue or an enlarged lymph nodes. 4) One-sided swelling or drooping/slanting of the face, lip or tongue.

I have a broken molar and It is pointed and poking the insides of my cheek. What treatment do you recommend and how much would it cost?

Hi there! To answer your question fully, it would require a clinical examination and a probably a dental x-ray. Small broken portion If the broken portion is small, we can either smooth the sharp edge or replace the missing portion with a filling. Large broken portion If the broken portion is very large, a root canal treatment or sometimes even extraction of the tooth may be indicated. I would suggest a visit to a dentist at your earliest convenience so that we can have a look for you and suggest the relevant treatment options for yourself! Hope this helps a little bit!
