There are two types of staining of teeth:
- Extrinsic (on the tooth surface)
- Intrinsic (inside the tooth surface)
Tea stains are extrinsic so they can be removed with a simple polishing of the teeth. More long-term staining may require scaling of the teeth to remove.
There are also whitening toothpastes or stain-removing toothpastes available in the market. These tend to have coarser abrasives added to it. Long-term use is not advisable as you will abrade the tooth surface.
My advice is to consult a dentist and have your teeth professionally cleaned. If the stains return too quickly, then a once-a-week use of the specialised toothpastes will not be too damaging.
