What can I give my toddler if she keeps vomiting?

Doctor's Answers 1

I’m assuming your child is between 1-2 years old. With these symptoms there is definitely a need to see a doctor to establish the degree of dehydration and to rule out serious causes for the incesssnt vomiting.

If the symptoms have just begun and your child doesn’t have fever nor other symptoms and isn’t listless, you can try slow and low volume rehydration with diluted formula milk, watermelon carrot or coconut juice, or medical grade fluid replacement like hydralyte or pedialyte. If vomiting persists please seek medical attention.

Are there any precautions I need to take after my child has recovered from Kawasaki Disease?

I’m glad to hear that your child has recovered well. Short answer: The good news is that most children treated for Kawasaki disease recover fully with no long term complications, and will not need further treatment. The earlier he was treated, the better. Recurrence of Kawasaki disease is uncommon. He should, however, continue to follow a healthy diet, and adopt healthy lifestyle habits to reduce the risk of future heart disease (this applies to all children, not just those who have Kawasaki disease).

How accurate is a pregnancy test in determining pregnancy?

For a young lady with a history of irregular menses, we will always consider polycystic ovaries as a possible cause. Other possible causes include severe stress, hormonal disorders such as thyroid problems, prolactin producing tumours (prolactin is a hormone necessary for production of breast milk), sudden weight fluctuations, vigorous intensity of exercise, or even a deficient production of the female hormones. Of course, in someone who is sexually active, it is important to exclude pregnancy. The urine pregnancy tests kits are quite sensitive and hence the result is reliable enough.
