Hi Gui Fang,

The treatment options available depends on the size of your gap. A small gap can be closed using braces or white (composite) fillings. A medium gap can be closed with braces, white fillings or crowns. A large gap (the size of a tooth) can be closed with braces and perhaps an additional tooth in the form of a bridge or an implant.

To give you some background, a space or gap between two teeth is a diastema. It can be caused by various factors such as:

  • Teeth and jaw discrepancy
  • Oversized labial frenum (a piece of soft tissue that extends from center of upper lip to the middle of the two upper front teeth)
  • Habits such as thumb-sucking or tongue swallowing reflex
  • Periodontal (gum) disease
  • Transition from primary teeth to permanent teeth (children)

If necessary, the underlying cause will be treated first before proceeding with the treatment to close the gap.

During your consultation with your Prosthodontist/dentist, they will examine your dental condition clinically and radiographically before advising on an appropriate treatment plan.

What is the cost of Mbrace for relapsed crooked teeth after previous braces treatment?

Thanks for your question! The cost of MBrace aligners will differ from clinic to clinic. Some clinics will tailor a cost according to your treatment plan, whereas others will have a package price. Usually if you’ve had braces in the past and your teeth have relapsed (moved out of alignment), it is relatively simple to rectify and so generally this will reflect positively on the cost of your treatment. For MBrace, your doctor will need to provide an examination to assess suitability and to take some baseline records.

Can my teeth still shift despite wearing retainers regularly?

if the retainer has warped or stretched out over time (this tends to happen with clear plastic retainers as the plastic degrades after some time) this gives your teeth some wiggle room to move while inside the retainer. Our jawbones are constantly being remodeled, and our bone continues to grow (at a very slow rate) throughout our lifetime. The teeth have to compensate for the changes in the bone by shifting around. Should you lose a tooth later on in life, this may also induce drifting of the other remaining teeth around the space.
