How long does it take for post inflammatory erythema (PIE) to fade?

It takes about 6 months but can be longer if you tend to flush easily! Try taking oral antioxidants, strictly use sunblock daily and if your skin can take it, topical differin and vitamin C can help too. If it is taking too long, we do the excel v vascular laser and/or picosure laser to clear the marks. Takes about 2-3 sessions for good outcome!

What can I do for redness and atrophic scars after completing a course of Accutane (photo)?

You should definitely add differin to your regime and consider starting laser early. I will suggest a combination of vascular laser (Excel V) and Picosure Focus array lens or Fractional laser. Hopefully the atrophic scars can be improved to a good extent since the scars are still new!

How do I get rid of sebaceous filaments on my nose and chin (photo)?

Hi! You could start using tretinoin or differin applied topically at night. This will take some time to improve the appearance but it works. On the other hand, if you are looking for faster results, you can also get them extracted by a professional facial therapist that is experienced in such extraction. Hope this helps!

How to get rid of neck pigmentation?

Hi! A proper examination is necessary! Many patients have skin tags and seborrheic keratoses on neck and that only requires 1 session of electrocautery with the Ellman surgitron. Could also be freckles or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation i. e. acne marks and we will use picosure for that. May need 2-3 sessions to clear pigmentation. Best to see a doctor first! Not difficult to get rid of dark spots if the diagnosis is right!

How to get rid of clogged pores at home?

Hi! Some fun facts! 1. Number of pores and how oily/acne prone can be genetically inherited! 2. For some skin types, the oiliness of skin is increased when the skin is dehydrated i. e. after a long flight. To answer your question, we will probably need to take a better look at the skin. Is the clogged pores referring to black heads around the T zone or is it closed comedones/white heads around the jawline/sides of cheeks. The diagnosis is quite different and treatment plan is VERY different.

How to use pigmentation creams like hydroquinone and tretinoin correctly?

Hi! I am assuming you are using the modified Kligman's for acne marks/PIH? Modified Kligman's was formulated specifically for treatment of melasma but it is sometimes used for PIH. Do you apply differin to the whole face of just the oily T zone/problematic jawline region? Is your skin sensitive and dry? or oily? I am going to make some assumptions here. I am assuming you are using Differin gel every night to control your acne and the lightening cream for marks. I will also assume that you have normal skin. In that case, you can do the following nightly. 1.

Do I need to stop Differin before lasers and peels?

Hi! Your doctor should be informed of your skin care regime so that he/she can give you the correct instructions prior to the procedure. In general, we recommend patients to stop differin for a few days before and after peels. This is because differin may worsen post procedure dryness and also increases photosensitivity.

What non-invasive aesthetic treatments can a male do to look better?

HI! If it's specifically jaw sculpting, I'll like to recommend botox jawline slimming for the massaters and HIFU (High intensity focused ultrasound). In combination, these procedures lift the lower face and give more definition to jawline. They are also one time treatments and repeat treatments are 6 months later! For some patients, adding a bit of fillers for chin will further improve the jaw definition. Do not neglect skin pigmentation! I will usually clear up any brown spots and acne at the same time because a clear and healthy skin also makes a male look better!

Which treatments are effective for both pigmentation and large pores?

Hi! Thanks for this great question. We get it so often! Large pores can be due to oily skin (usually men and younger ladies) or increasing skin laxity due to age/solar elastosis. There are so many different types of pigmentation - freckles, lentigenes, melasma. SO first step is to get a proper assessment by an experienced dr. I will share what we recommend for pores and highlight those treatment that may resolve certain pigmentory conditions. 1.

What is the best melasma treatment in Singapore?

Hi! Melasma is difficult to treat but not impossible to improve. In fact, there are many available treatments to improve melasma. For resistant melasma ( like yours), oral tranexamic acid and low energy thulium lasers are procedures that we will recommend at our practice. Sun protection is so important. Ensure you are using generous amount of sunblock (Broad spectrum, SPF 50) and practise sun avoidance. Some energy devices and IPL will worsen the melasma so always speak to a doctor who is experienced in treating this condition. Btw, you should definitely not use hydroquinone beyond 6 months.

What are the risks of scarring after skin tag removal?

HI! The process of removing skin tags usually requires us to use an energy based device or laser to ablate (or burn) the skin tag. Done by an inexperienced operator, it can leave dark marks (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) or dented (atrophied) scars. On the other hand, done by an experienced operator with good post procedure instructions (sunblock and sun avoidance), recovery is good and easy! I've gotten my own skin tags removed twice by different doctors and it was a generally satisfactory experience! Try to consult a dr first if you are keen for skin tag removal!

How to improve the appearance of a receded chin?

HI! We will all experience resorption of bone and loss of fat pad as we age; so most of us will experience a receded chin! There are generally 2 options. 1. A chin implant with a plastic surgeon 2. Injection of fillers into the chin for augmentation. As I am not a plastic surgeon, I will not be discussing the procedure but do talk to a plastic surgeon if you are keen! Injection of fillers are considered an office procedure done under local anaesthetics (numb cream).

How to get rid of brown pigmentation at my cheeks? (photo)

Hi! The picture is not very clear. Does this pigment appear on both sides of the face? A proper history of the pigment and your medical history is important. Your pigment does look like melasma though it is less common in males. Melasma is a life long condition and proper sun protection is so important. I usually recommend a thulium based laser with a topical skin care regime. It is important to avoid IPLs and heat based devices as those worsen the condition. We recommend 4-6 sessions, each done monthly.

Can Rejuran be mixed with lignocaine?

Hi! When we perform rejuran combined with skin boosters, the hyaluronic acid filler (for hydration) already has lidocaine in the formulation so the procedure is much more comfortable than having rejuran injected directly. Rejuran (with or without lidocaine) is definitely efficacious in skin rejuvenation however it's best that you consult with a dr first so that he/she can assess your skin needs and evaluate if rejuran will give your skin a significant improvement!
