An asymmetric jaw can cause functional as well as aesthetic issues. You may find it more difficult to chew, smile, speak or sleep, or even experience jaw pain or excessive tooth wear.

Depending on the extent of your dental condition, an asymmetric jaw can be treated using orthodontic treatments and/or orthognathic (jaw) surgery.

In mild cases of an asymmetric jaw, it is possible to treat it with braces or Invisalign. However, in severe cases, jaw surgery will be required.

Your orthodontist will work closely with your oral surgeon to align your dental arches with braces or Invisalign to prepare you for your jaw surgery. Your jaws will be re-positioned, improving your smile and bite at the same time. Once your jaws are in the desired alignment, the surgery will be done to make your jaw symmetrical.

You are advised to consult an oral surgeon or orthodontist so that they can thoroughly examine your dental condition and advise accordingly.
