Can extracting premolars flatten and improve my protruding side profile? (photo)

Doctor's Answer

Perhaps.

It seems like you have an underlying skeletal discrepancy which is mild. The upper jaw seems relatively undersized compared to the lower jaw.

Premolar extractions, when the appropriate tooth is selected, can be useful for camouflaging skeletal discrepancies where orthognathic jaw surgery is not being considered.

Your dentist/orthodontist should trace this xray (lateral cephalogram) and discuss with you to figure out how to best correct the protrusive profile and improve the open bite in the front.
