Could lifting heavy weights worsen my bow legs? Do I need to avoid certain exercises?

It's actually not uncommon to have bow legs in this part of the world, it's probably in our genes that we have a little bit of bow-leggedness in the Asian populations. It's also quite common in those elite athletes when they start training at a very young age because the growing bone will adapt to the stress applied on them (Wolff's law).

It's a good thing that you have no pain at this moment. However, in general, extreme heavy loading of the knees may accelerate the degeneration of the knee cartilage, which will result in pain and more bowing of the legs. So if you can switch to another sports, it'll definitely help with your knees. Low impact sports like swimming, cycling and cross-trainer would be ideal.

But of course, as suggested, if you are a serious lifter, please ensure that you have proper training and guidance in order not to sustain any serious injuries and optimise your performance.
