Could my dizziness be due to excessive exercise and diet changes?

Doctor's Answer

Causes of Dizziness

Dizziness has many possible causes. This includes:

  • Inner ear disturbance
  • Motion sickness
  • Medication effects

Sometimes it is caused by an underlying health condition, such as:

  • Poor circulation
  • Infection
  • Injury.

How Do We Identify The Cause of Dizziness?

Take note of:

  • The way dizziness makes one feel
  • The triggers
  • How long the dizziness lasts
  • Other accompanying symptoms

Do Diet Change cause Dizziness?

Yes, if you are fasting or eating lesser, you may end up with hypogylcemia (low blood sugar) and that may be the reason for your giddiness.

Does Excessive Exercise cause Dizziness?

When one exercise, one may tend to:

  • Over breathe
  • Hyperventilate
  • Breathe too fast.

Overbreathing causes one not to have enough carbon dioxide in the blood as the air that we breathe out (expired air) is very rich in carbon dioxide.

When the blood level for carbon dioxide drops, that causes the blood vessel in the brain to constrict and thus causing giddiness.

A suitable intervention here is to learn to slow down our breathing by taking deeper breaths and at a slower pace. Diaphragmatic breathing (abdominal breathing) will also be effective.
