Poorly controlled diabetes is a risk factor for poor wound healing, whether Type 1 or 2.

Type 1 Diabetics are insulin dependent and require insulin administration for sugar control. Should the sugar levels be well controlled (hba1c <7%) , T1DM is not a contraindication for acne scar treatments.

If poorly controlled, there is a higher risk of wound infection and poor healing and a overall poorer outcome.

For the types of acne scars seen in the photo, which are mainly boxcar and icepick scars, a variety of options of treatment are available. I would recommend fractional CO2 laser resurfacing, subcision and TCA CROSS.

I would recommend getting your diabetes under control before embarking on any aesthetic procedures.

Wishing you all the best in your scar treatment journey
