Does laser treatments cause the skin to be weak and thin?

Doctor's Answer

Hi,

There are many different lasers around, each meant for different purpose. Most cosmetic lasers used to treat common cosmetic concerns are safe and do not cause skin thinning and weakness if operated by qualified trained doctors and used for its intended purpose at the right settings.

In fact, some lasers e.g. fractional CO2 help build new collagen to improve weakened and thinned skin.

The most common causes for weakened thinned skin are due to:

  1. Ageing
  2. UV exposure
  3. Smoking
  4. Poor nutrition
  5. Underlying medical illness e.g. chronic renal disease
  6. Inappropriate use of topical steroid creams.

Hope this helps!
