Is drinking water effective at flushing out a UTI?

Doctor's Answer

In fact, concentrated urine can indeed lead to a risk of a urinary tract infection (UTI) [1]. With the dilution of the urine due to sufficient water intake, the symptoms of the UTI may improve as the urine would cause less irritation to the bladder. Drinking water can help to flush the bacteria out from your urinary tract before an infection starts [2].

However, drinking water itself does not flush out a UTI. The act of voiding is in itself a protective mechanism in not allowing bacteria to have a chance to grow in the bladder.
