When choosing an eye surgeon for non-flap refractive surgery, what should I look out for?

Doctor's Answer

When deciding on a doctor to go to for any condition or surgery, the process is the same, ie there are no specific things that are unique to non-flap refractive surgery.

You would want first of all, a qualified/knowledgeable doctor with training and expertise in the field. This could be checked on their clinic website or by doing a Google/online search.

You would also want to find a doctor who is willing to spend the time to explain things fully and put you at ease. Trust is an extremely important factor in the doctor patient relationship.

So if you are going for refractive surgery, the doctor should explain the different options to you and explain specifically the pros and cons of flap vs non-flap surgery, in your case. Sometimes, a doctor who performs all kinds of refractive surgery may be able to give you the most balanced view of these options.

The other thing that may help is to ask friends or relatives, who may have had good experiences with certain doctors and point you in the right direction.
