Recurrent boils on the buttocks are frequently treated with episodic courses of antibiotics and antiseptic washes during disease flares.
It is best that the bacterial cause of the recurrent boils on the buttocks be identified by performing a skin investigation called a bacterial culture. This will allow the doctor to prescribed the appropriate antibiotics to treat the infection.
On a longer term, the continued use of an antiseptic wash (e.g. triclosan, octenisan, stellisept) to cleanse the skin and areas where the bacteria tends to colonize e.g. underarms and groin will be useful to minimize recurrences.
Hidradenitis suppurativa, a chronic relapsing inflammatory skin condition presenting as recurrent “boils” on the buttocks will also need to be excluded by your attending doctor.
