How do I treat anhidrosis?

Doctor's Answer

Anhidrosis is a condition where the body is unable to sweat. It is a rare condition, and when the body is unable to sweat, it is unable to lose heat. Symptoms commonly associated with this includes muscle cramps, dizziness, flushing and even signs of heat exhaustion.

In your case, as your lack of sweating has only developed in the past 4 months, this is likely due to an acquired cause.

There are various causes of anhidrosis. These include underlying skin conditions like psoriasis, certain oral medications, autoimmune diseases , metabolic diseases, neuropathy and even skin damage.

It is advisable for you to see your dermatologist to confirm the diagnosis. A sweat test may need to be performed to confirm the diagnosis.

Treatment depends on the cause and managing the underlying cause.
