How effective are antiseptic applications such as Fucidin, Betadine and Dettol at treating abscesses?

Doctor's Answer

Hi,

Topical antiseptics may be effective for treating small abscesses. Caution should be exercised as use of some topical antiseptics may be associated with allergic skin reactions.

Larger abscesses will require a course of oral antibiotics and perhaps even surgical drainage.

Hope this helps!
