How to restore teeth enamel and whiten my yellow teeth? (photo)

Doctor's Answer

Thank you for your question and for sending us such a clear picture of your upper front teeth.

I feel your frustration and i will try my best to share with you my thoughts regarding your case, and how i approach treatment for my other patients who have come to see me with similar issues as yours.

From what i see in your picture, it seems as though your teeth enamel is demineralised and weak, possibly also with patches of fluorosis. I also see small dinks and potholes on the smooth surfaces of your teeth, besides the general yellowness.

If you were my patient, i would first make an attempt to find out the reason why your teeth enamel has progressed to its current weak state. From the image of your lips and teeth, i can guess that you are probably between 20-30 years of age, and it is unusual to see such enamel wear in a young person.

Possible reasons could be:

1. Enamel hypoplasia

2. Amelogenesis imperfecta

3. Acidic/Sugary Diet

4. Acidic Saliva

5. Severe Fluorosis

Once the root cause of your weak enamel has been identified and managed well, then you would be ready to discuss with your trusted dentist on how to restore your teeth enamel.

In your case, likely treatment options could be: Icon Resin Infiltration, Composite veneers, Porcelain veneers, or porcelain crowns. Or a combination of all the above.

Teeth whitening would most likely not be a suitable treatment option for you .

I hope my answer helps you and i wish you all the best in finding a dentist that you can trust and have rapport with.

Kind Regards,

Dr Gerald Tan
