What are haemorrhoids? Is this a haemorrhoid? (photo)

Doctor's Answer

What are Haemorrhoids?

Haemorrhoids are anal cushions in your anal canal that help to keep your anus from leaking gas or stools. If these cushions are overstretched (usually from excessive straining when passing stools) these anal cushions can prolapse out of the anus. Sometimes they can bleed as the cushions are full of blood vessels.

Treatment:

Haemorrhoids can be treated and symptoms can be resolved with the appropriate treatment. You will need to see a colorectal surgeon for the treatment.

As for the photo attached, it appears to be a model of the anus.
