How do I decide which OTC acne treatment such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, AHA, sulphur and resorcinol is the best for me? (photo)

Doctor's Answer

In terms of OTC products that you have listed, a combination of both benzoyl peroxide, which kills the acne bacteria, and salicylic acid, which reduces comedones, will be most effective for mild acne.

However, the combination of both products may cause skin irritation, so use with precaution and look out for any changes during the first few weeks. Also, consider applying the products separately, one in the morning and the other one at night to minimize skin irritation.

If your acne fails to respond adequately after 6-8 weeks of OTC product use, do consult your doctor for more effective prescription medication.
