How do Radiesse and Ellanse compare in restoring cheek and jaw volume?

Doctor's Answer

Both Radiesse and Ellanse are biostimulant dermal fillers. These collagen-stimulating fillers give dual effects when they are injected into your skin. They give instant lifting and volume enhancement while inducing collagen production over the course of 3-6 months. I use Ellanse to restore volume to cheeks, temples, jawlines and contour the nose and chin.

Radiesse is a synthetically produced product which consists of 30% Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a sodium carboxy-methylcellulose resorbable aqueous gel carrier (70%).

Ellanse contains biomaterials- Polycaprolactone (30%) and cellulose-based gel carrier with glycerin & water (70%), which are biocompatible, non-toxic, non-antigenic and non-allergenic.

I personally prefer Ellanse in view of the following:

  • soft natural result
  • less post-treatment swelling (Radiesse has a higher rate of post-treatment swelling, results are usually reduced after initial swelling subsides)
  • slower absorption of carrier gel
  • improved longevity -- more than 2 years duration (Ellanse-M)

Both Radiesse and Ellanse do not have dissolving agents to reverse undesired result, thus it is important for you to choose a doctor who is highly experienced with the use of biostimulant dermal fillers.
