Should I have cataract surgery if I have macular degeneration?

Doctor's Answer

Macular degeneration is a different type of problem.

It's a problem affecting the back part of the eye, the central vision of the eye. So usually if the patient has active macular degeneration, I think all the efforts of doctors should be made to stabilize macular degeneration before doing cataract surgery.

Concentrate resources on treating macular degeneration. However, if it is stable and not severe and cataract is on the other hand very severe, then I think it's reasonable to do cataract surgery.
