Are there any treatments for the skin beneath toe nails bleeding after being cut? (Photo)

Doctor's Answers 1

Thank you for the question. If you cut yourself by accident, you should apply simple first aid to the wound.

1. Clean your hands and if there is any bleeding, you should apply pressure to the wound to stop the bleeding.

2. Clean the wound with an antiseptic cleanser or water.

3. Apply an antibiotic ointment to the wound or antiseptic cream or gel to the wound.

4. You can dress the wound with a plaster or dressing.

5. Do lookout for signs of infection. If the area around the cut develops redness, pain, or discharges pus, you should see your doctor to prevent the infection from worsening. Oral antibiotics may be required if this happens.

Should I be concerned if my nails turn purple whenever I am feeling cold?

Hi,It is likely that you have Raynaud’s phenomenon. In this condition, your blood vessels of the fingers are very sensitive to cold temperatures and take on a bluish colour. It may be associated with pain. While it may be harmless, it may also be caused by an underlying connective tissue disorder such as systemic lupus erythematosus. A review by your doctor or a rheumatologist is recommended. Hope this helps!

Should I see a podiatrist or dermatologist for a toe nail injury? (photo)

It is common for a traumatic injury to the nail to result in a blood clot under the nail. This can lead to a separation of the nail from the nail bed and cause the nail to detach. The new nail will usually grow out gradually but nail growth is very slow and it may take about 9 months for a new nail to completely regrow. You can give it a bit of time to see how the regrowth is. If, however, you have any concerns or noticed any abnormal regrowth of the nail, you can see your dermatologist for a proper examination and assessment.
