What are the risks of kenalog injection for keloids? Does it affect my hair growth?

Doctor's Answer

Hi,

The most common side effects of kenalog (triamcinolone acetonide) injection for keloid are pain, skin thinning (atrophy), skin discoloration (usually hypopigmentation) and formation of fine blood vessels (telangiectasias).

Less common but more serious side effects include ulceration and infection.

Side effects may be related to the concentration of the kenalog used, amount injected, frequency of injection and injection technique.

No, it will not affect normal hair growth.

Hope this helps!
