What is a globus sensation, and what are possible causes of it?

Doctor's Answer

Globus sensation refers to a feeling of something stuck in your throat. It is most commonly due to irritation of the voice box (larynx).

The voice box is a very sensitive organ. Once inflamed, the patient may suffer from globus sensation for a few weeks to months. Common causes are:

1. Postnasal drip from rhinitis (sensitive nose) or sinusitis (sinus infection)

2. Acid reflux from the stomach (laryngopharyngeal reflux)

3. Anxiety

Hope this helps and all the best!
