What is daily pain management of trigeminal neuralgia like?

Doctor's Answer

Surgery is one of the options, the other options are

  • Radiosurgery
  • Radiation
  • Injection.

For patients who take tablets, we find that they have to take it a few times a day, the most common tablet is carbamazepine, for example, best taken 2-3 times per day, so patients have to be on this. Those patients who try to decrease the dosage, so they take one in the morning and when they know they are going to do something that brings the pain or feel that the pain is about to come, they will just take an extra tablet. Essentially, they are living tablet to tablet.
