What is the best solution to remove nose threads that were done poorly?

Doctor's Answer

Sorry to hear about your deviated nose threads that you want to remove.

There are 3 approaches for managing deviated nose threads, which your doctor should discuss with you.

1. Remove the threads

Process: removed via a small puncture with an 18g needle and careful extraction under local analgesia

Risks: scar formation at the needle puncture site, pain, inability to remove all threads and infection.

My suggestion: Proceed with caution. Thread removal should only be done for severe thread migration because of the risks.

Mild cases of thread deviation/migration can be managed with other approaches.

Which brings me to…

  1. Correct the deviation

If the deviation is mild, the deviated appearance can be minimized by inserting more threads to fix the "defect".

However, this requires good skills and experience in managing potential complications.

3. Wait for threads to dissolve

Most PDO threads should dissolve within 6 - 9 months.

It is unfortunate that you have nose thread deviation/migration.

My suggestion for you is to Correct the deviation if it's mild and fixable or Removal if its severe.

This is no easy decision especially when you just had bad experiences with nose threads.

Which is why it is very important to speak to a doctor whom you trust to give you the best advice based on your condition.

Hope that this helps!

Best regards,

Dr Justin Boey
