What are the treatment options for shingles scars?

Doctor's Answer

Hi there. Shingles, or herpes zoster, occurs when the dormant chickenpox virus is reactivated in your nerve tissues. Early signs of shingles include tingling and localized pain, followed by a blistering rash which scabs over and falls off after 1-2 weeks. \

It may leave disfiguring scars that consist of pink/brown discolouration, or more serious depressed/pitted scars, or even raised keloid scars. Such scars will usually improve over time. However if you are troubled by the appearance, there are effective topical and laser treatments that can help.

Do see a doctor or Dermatologist for an assessment of your scars and advice about your treatment options. Hope you find this helpful!

Best regards
