Which aesthetic treatments can improve jaw symmetry? (photo)

Doctor's Answer

No one is completely symmetrical, and being so would actually make us look rather awkward.

In any case, better facial harmony can be achieved through several means, both surgically and non-surgically.

For someone looking at less invasive means of initial management, these include the following:

  • Botox of jaw masseter muscles:

  • This helps to reduce the bulk of the muscle at the side of the jawline, improving the lateral contour of the face and reducing the squarish appearance of many Asian faces

  • This can only be done for patients with actual masseter bulk. If the problem is the bony jaw, surgical reduction is required

  • Botox of the neck area:

  • Botox of the muscles around the jawline and neck - sometimes known as the Nefertiti lift, helps to increase the definition of the neck and jawline

  • Fillers of the Jawline, chin and midface:

  • Fillers help to sculpt, and is the most direct way of fixing any asymmetries - we place fillers to the side that is more deficient. This is done carefully, as placing too much will broaden the already broad Asian face

  • Fillers to the chin and midface help create more facial harmony and give an illusion of a more proportionate than broad face

  • Ultherapy:

  • Using micro-focused ultrasound, Ultherapy is able to tighten and lift the skin around the midface, jawline and neck to improve any mild laxity you might have that is creating the visual asymmetries.

These procedures are relevant for yourself, as the frontal picture you have sent does show:

  1. Possible masseter enlargement
  2. Deficient midface projection
  3. Likely deficient lower third length and projection (chin)
  4. Possible poor jawline definition (not visible from this frontal photograph)

Choosing one procedure is unlikely to solve the issue, and optimal outcome typically requires a mix of the above.

Do have a thorough consultation before deciding on what suits you best!
