Why do I get extremely itchy in hot weather? (photo)

Doctor's Answer

Hi Che Ee,

From your picture and description, it seems like heat rash to me.

Singapore is a tropical and humid country, which may cause you to perspire excessively. The blisters are caused by sweat droplets trapped under the skin. Sweat is an irritant which results in itch and pain. Heat rash typically subsides in a few days and gets better during colder weather.

In TCM, heat rash, also known as 热痱 (re4 fei4) is caused by the combination of humidity (dampness) and summer heat (hot weather). You may have a dampness-heat body type, which explains your sensitivity to environmental and weather changes.

Yes, it is a common issue that TCM manages. Herbal prescription is formulated to dessicate dampness and to expel heat.

You are advised to keep yourself cool by wearing something light and comfortable, diligently change out of your drenched clothing, cleaning affected areas with warm water and to avoid cold water shower, greasy and spicy food.

Hope this helps!

With regards,
Jin Shun
