Aesthetic Medicine Pregnancy

I gave birth 2 years ago. Is coolsculpting suitable for losing tummy fats, and how effective is it?

DOCTOR’S ANSWER (4)
Dear Chrisatel,

Coolsculpting is one of the more popular brands of cryoliposis. All cryolipolysis machines use generally use the same technique of using cold plates with a suction applicator to cause cold injury to fat cells. It is an option for those who will not consider any other option except non invasive techniques. It is not without discomfort but most would generally say it is tolerable. The other devices that may produce equivalent results are machines that use other forms of energy to lyse fat cells such as radiofrequency, HIFU, lasers etc.

The basis of long time effectives of these procedures are appropriate dietary, exercise and lifestyle habits. And in general, as far as efficacy and price-benefit ratio is concerned, liposuction is still the gold standard. There are many refinements to technique and patient preparation and post surgical management to reduce downtime.

Lastly, I have had a few post pregnancy patients complaining about persistent tummy fat, flabbiness or laxity who actually had abdominal musculo-fascial weakness. The treatment for this is will not be coolsculpting.

Dear chrisatel,

To determine if Coolsculpting is suitable for losing your "tummy fats", a proper professional consult is needed. There are other medical devices such as HIFU/RF/Laser lipolysis technologies that may work better for certain types of fat.

If deemed suitable and done properly, coolsculpting is still the most effective non-invasive fat loss technology with visible results from each session.

Hope it helps!

Dear Chrisatel,

Coolsculpting is effective for losing localized fats. There may be bruising which will resolve within a few days. It's recommended to have the treatment repeated 4 weeks later if needed.

Vanquish Me is another effective treatment if you're looking for a treatment with less downtime. Another advantage of using Vanquish Me is that treatment can be started earlier post-delivery compared to coolsculpting, especially for those who had a caesarean delivery.

Vanquish Me machine is designed to deliver energy to your body to eliminate unwanted fat cells without even touching your body. Vanquish Me covers large treatment spot. It can reduce the circumference of the entire abdominal area and can be adjusted for different body sizes. Its ability to treat full flank to flank body treatment will leave no unevenness or lines of demarcation. You may repeat treatment every week with treatment lasting 45 minutes each session.

Hope this helps!

Coolsculpting or fat-freeze (Cryolipolysis) treatment is able to reduce the number of fat cells in each treated area by up to 20-25%. It can be used to help improve the contour of the abdomen post-childbirth, provided that it is indeed due to fat accumulation and not loose abdominal skin post-childbirth. You should first get a proper assessment and review by an experienced doctor in cryolipolysis and there are a few points regarding cryolipolysis that you should note.

Firstly, coolSculpting or fat-freeze (Cryolipolysis) fat-reduction treatment is a form of body contouring treatment that is suitable for people who have unwanted or stubborn fat in targeted areas. Secondly, It is also not meant for weight-loss per se and is not a suitable therapy for obese individuals. Suitable candidates for fat-freeze/cryolipolysis treatment are those with noticeable bulges in certain areas that they wish to improve but want a non-surgical alternative to liposuction.
