How soon can I smoke a cigarette after ICL eye surgery?

Doctor's Answers 2

Questions like this are best answered by your own doctor, because there is no single fixed answer.

But if I were you, I would take this opportunity to quit smoking.

Having gone through the trouble and expense of surgery, I would try to make my clear vision last as long as possible. This is taking into account the fact that smoking is associated with earlier cataract development and a higher risk of macular degeneration in the future.

In other words, might as well make the most of the clear vision you have now, as well as the huge amount you will save by kicking this addiction!

In general, smoking is discouraged whether in the postoperative period or not.

If you did feel an overwhelming need to start smoking again, then I would suggest giving yourself at least a week after ICL surgery before you decided to light up again.

Can myopia, presbyopia and astigmatism be corrected in 1 surgery?

Your question is one that many laser manufacturers have tried to answer for decades. Firstly, do be aware that laser vision correction (LVC) was never intended to solve the issue of presbyopia in middle age. LVC (eg PRK, LASIK & ReLex SMILE) does try to attempt to address some limitations of presbyopia via various techniques like monovision or improvements in depth of focus.

How long is the recovery period for ICL eye surgery?

Patients usually recover quite quickly after Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) surgery. From the vision point of view, vision is usually clear enough on the day following surgery to do most activities of daily living. This includes driving, reading, looking at computer screens etc. There are some small corneal wounds from the surgery, which can take several weeks to a month to fully heal. As such, during this time, take care to avoid splashing lots of water in the eyes. Generally, we advise against swimming and water sports during this period.
