Can microneedle patches for keloids cause infection?

Doctor's Answers 1

Hi,

If the skin is clean when the microneedles are applied, the infection is not likely to occur. The skin may be cleansed by washing with soap and water or by using an antiseptic swab.

Also once used, discard the microneedle patch and do not reuse.

Hope this helps!

Can facial lasers cause keloids?

That really depends on what sort of lasers/skin treatments you are doing. Ablative lasers, deep chemical peels or skin devices like fractional RF breach the skin layer and pose a risk for keloid formation. This is why I personally have both ablative and non-ablative fractional lasers for scar/rejuvenation/wrinkle treatments. If you are only using non-ablative lasers or laser toning, there is negligible risk. In fact, some non-ablative lasers like the pulsed-dye or long pulsed ND:Yag lasers can be useful for treating keloids!

What kinds of foods affect keloid growth?

Hi, Simply put, keloid growth is not related to any food factors, although there are the usual unsubstantiated internet claims that sugars, nitrate-rich foods, alcohol, and caffeine may worsen keloids. The major known risk factors of keloid growth include genetic factors, location of injury (back of neck, upper back, shoulders and front of chest having the greatest risk), tension of wound, infection, and persistent inflammation. These are the main factors that really need to be considered carefully when deciding on non-emergency and non-critical surgery in a keloid-prone patient.
