What options are there, i.e. dental, aesthetic and surgical, to augment the appearance of my jaw?

Doctor's Answer

I would say that it depends on the actual appearance of your jaw. If a patient comes to me and would like to have a more defined chin or lower jawline, there are 3 main treatments that can help. They are:

  1. toxins,
  2. fillers,
  3. HIFU or Thermage.

Botox at the chin relax the muscles, which is known as the mentalis muscle. That would help especially when a patient has a dimpled looking chin. This occurs when the mentalis muscles are contracted. Hence, this appearance can be reversed or improved with the application of Botox to the chin.

Filler would be useful for those with a recessed chin or short and small receded chin. Fillers would be particularly useful to help achieve looks that are more defined. Similarly, for the jawline, the filler can help to actually make the contour of the jaw more obvious and defined.

Lastly, HIFU can help to lift the skin and make the jaw more obvious and contoured.

Hope this is useful!
